Analog Tweets (Alton Brown joins Tumblr!)
Analog Tweets is a new Tumblr authored by none other than Food Network’s Alton Brown. However, it’s not exactly what one might expect from the man we best know as the host of cooking shows such as Good Eats and Iron Chef America.
Alton has been a very interesting person to follow on Twitter (@altonbrown). Like many celebrities — or, as Alton would call himself, a “cable-ebrity” — he has struggled at times dealing with trolls, haters, and people that just plain miss the point of his humor. One exchange I will never forget was Alton’s rant against anti-obesity billboards in his home state of Georgia and how his statements were taken out of context. This also led Alton to share a little bit about his own life as a teenager, how he struggled with carrying extra weight, and how he got in that situation.
Anyway…over time, and all through being helpful to many, Alton seemed to try different approaches to tweeting. At one point a few months ago, he decided to go “analog.” Instead of typing out most of his tweets, he began responding by scribbling out answers on Post-It notes, taking pictures of them underneath the tweet he was answering, and putting them up on Twitter as picture links. These “analog tweets” have been hilarious, revealing, cutting, helpful, and even artistic.
Alton has chosen to start posting some of his favorite responses here on Tumblr. If you like good, geeky fun, I highly recommend checking out Alton’s new online effort especially if you’re not a Twitter user. You might not get a lot of cooking advice on Analog Tweets but you should get a good laugh or two plus an occasional lesson on how to properly slay a troll.
I will close with one more thing…whether or not Alton considers himself a celebrity, it’s nice to see somebody of any level of fame that truly gets it when it comes to social media. It is also very nice to see anybody of any level of fame who is kind enough to spend his/her free time interacting with fans.
