This still impressive automotive “superstore” of its time sits along the old path of U.S. Route 70. In addition to tires and gasoline, the empty space on the side appears it might have been utilized for automobile sales. Looking at this made me think of the all-too-appropriate Iris DeMent song, Our Town, especially the line, “Over here is where I bought my first car.”

This beauty of an old sign (and motel) still sits on the north side of West Main Street in Mesa, Arizona just east of Phoenix. The road is also a part of the Apache Trail and, at one time, also carried the major U.S Routes 60, 70, 80, and 89.
